Luftmadrasser, uppblåsbara tält och till och med vissa gummibåtar använder ofta en luftintagsventil liknande den som visas här. De är mycket enkla och pålitliga.
Titta inuti och du kommer att se att hål tillåter luft att strömma in i det uppblåsbara när du använder pumpen. När du slutar pumpa tvingar baktrycket den enkla backslagsventilen som är placerad bakom hålen att stänga för att förhindra att luft förloras.
Men ibland kan smuts och grus hindra denna ventil från att skapa en lufttät försegling och luften kommer långsamt att sippra ut. Symptomen förväxlas ofta med en punktering, men problemet är enkelt att åtgärda.
Om ventilen tappar luft är det dags att ta isär ventilen. Du kommer att upptäcka att hela ventilen kan skruvas loss från det uppblåsbara objektet, även om den hålls fast med en enkel lätt plastrem för att förhindra att den försvinner. När ventilen är öppen avslöjas botten av backslagsventilen.
Vik försiktigt tillbaka denna och torka av både ventilen och plastytan med en fuktig trasa för att ta bort eventuell smuts eller grus som kan hindra en lufttät försegling.

OBS — Förebyggande är bättre än bot, så SE TILL ATT du alltid skruvar tillbaka skyddslocket när du har pumpat upp något uppblåsbart. Detta hjälper till att hindra föroreningar från att komma in i ventilen och minska luftförlust om ventilen skulle misslyckas. Och se till att inget kommer in under användning – kontrollera till exempel att pumpens slang inte har någon lera eller grus på änden du sätter i ventilen.

Valves on air mattresses, inflatable sleeping mats and other inflatable bedding can also lose air because of dirt in the valve. If your mattress feels softer by morning, it does not automatically mean that it has a puncture.
Why is my air mattress losing air?

How to clean an air mattress valve
- Deflate the mattress completely.

- Locate the flexible non-return flap behind the valve opening.
- Carefully fold the flap back.
- Clean the flap and the valve seat using a soft, damp cloth.
- Remove visible dust, sand, grit or hair without using sharp objects.
- Allow the valve to dry if moisture has entered it.
- Reassemble the valve, inflate the mattress and check that it holds air.
How to check whether an air mattress is airtight
Once inflated, close the valve cap securely and leave the mattress for several hours or overnight.
Bear in mind that a drop in temperature can reduce the air pressure inside the mattress. This is particularly common when camping, as temperatures often fall overnight. A small reduction in firmness is therefore not always a sign of a faulty valve or puncture.
If the mattress becomes noticeably flat after the valve has been cleaned and closed correctly, inspect it for a puncture or damaged seam.
